Guide to mount TV over drywall walls with metal studs
First of all yes it's possible = )
After all this people who asked me, some people got confused when ask unprofessional people who advertise that they capable to mount TV on wall, over the phone they say to potential customers it's not possible to mount over metal studs. Also beware of people who telling you, that you need to have extra support installed for additional cost, those people wrong. I've mounted my self many TV's on metal studs, I never installed any additional support like wood studs or plywood or anything like that.
The main tricks mounting TV on wall with metal studs is:
- 1. Do not over tite screws (EXTREMELY IMPORTANT) in metal studs very easy to over tite, set up lowest speed on your drill/screw driver. As soon as you feel it's tite STOP! do not try to tite "better" it will start spinning immediately and screw will be useless.
- 2. Use drywall screws for metal studs at least 2 inches long(please note drywall screws for wood will not work!)
- 3. Use washers so screw will fit into big holes of TV bracket(without washer screw will not hold the bracket), also it's good to use a combination of washers to make it easier not over tite. With simple metal round washer actually pretty hard to not over tite the screw, so use a couple different together.
- 4. Place screws on angles. Yes! do not need to please screws at 90 degree angle to the wall. What you do is top right screw placing on angle about 45 degree pointing out of the center to up/right corner of the wall. Left bottom screw pointing to left bottom corner of the wall at 45 degree angle, that way bracket will not be able to move at all it's gonna stock for good.
- 5. If possible use more that 4 screws, I use 8 usually (2 in each corner)
- 6. Do not leave over tite screws, it's useless, you can ether use thicker screw in same hole or same screw into a new place.
P.S. OF COURSE ALL SCREWS HAVE TO GOT IN STUDS!!!

LCD TV mounting on wall looks easy isn't?
Many people think TV mounting is easy and simple, and yes it's not as hard to surgery or something ) but hey when you TV installation your self, especially first time in life time, it looks like you've done it your self too.
For example many people don't even think about managing wires behind a drywall, some people mount it unleveled, also many people don't know that mount should be place on studs and also what important is to reach at least 2 studs. Reaching 2 studs mean placing at least 4 screw in studs to mount TV bracket safely. There is many things actually, simple enough for handy people yes! BUT if you just hold it drill 1 time in your life, TV on wall installation might not be a good idea to do it your self, for example if you over tight screws it can be very dangerous. On metal studs it simply catastrophic, because if over tight just a little bit, screw will fell off right away. TV mounting is fun when you really know how to do it. It took me 2 days to do my first TV on wall over fire place, right now I can mount TV on wall and hide all wires in less than 2 hours : )
